Tint Shades Guide
VLT (visible light transmission) is the percent of light that passes through. A lower number means a darker tint.
Window Tint Visualizer: See Tint Shades on a Car Before You Buy
Picking a tint from a sample card is hard. A small square under shop lights tells you little about how a whole car will look on the road. This window tint visualizer lets you test each shade on a 3D car first, so you choose with confidence.
Try 5%, 20%, 35%, 50% and 70%, switch the paint color, and change the lighting. If you want the full breakdown first, read our guide to the levels of tint on a car.
What the tint percentages mean
Every tint shade is rated by VLT, or visible light transmission. It is the share of visible light that passes through the glass and film. A lower number means a darker window and more privacy.
A 5% film is nearly black and often called limo tint. A 20% film looks dark but still shows a hint of the interior up close.
How to choose the right shade
Start with how you drive. If you often drive at night or on dark roads, a lighter film such as 35% or 50% keeps your view clear. If privacy and heat rejection matter most, a darker film on the rear windows may suit you better.
Paint color changes the look too. Dark film on a white car creates strong contrast, while the same film on a black car blends in.
Check your local rules
This tool shows how tint looks, not what is allowed. Every state sets its own limits, so confirm the numbers before you book an installer. Our guide to car window tint laws explains the basics.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a window tint visualizer?
A window tint visualizer is an interactive tool that lets you preview different tint percentages on a car before choosing window film. You can compare shades, change the vehicle color, and explore different lighting and viewing conditions.
2. What do the different window tint percentages mean?
Tint percentages represent VLT, or visible light transmission. Lower percentages, such as 5% and 20%, appear darker. Higher percentages, such as 50% and 70%, allow more visible light to pass through.
3. Is 5% tint darker than 20% tint?
Yes. A 5% VLT tint allows only 5% of visible light to pass through, making it darker than 20% VLT tint, which allows 20% through.
4. Can I compare two tint shades before buying?
Yes. Use the comparison mode to view two tint levels side by side. You can also use the before-and-after divider to compare an untinted view with your selected tint.
5. Can I see what window tint looks like at night?
Yes. Select the Night with Streetlights scene to preview how your chosen shade may appear in low-light conditions. You can also switch to the Inside Looking Out view. Remember that very dark tint can reduce nighttime visibility.
6. Can I preview tint on different car colors?
Yes. Choose from the paint options in the tool to see how the selected tint and film finish look against different vehicle colors.
7. Can I download my window tint preview?
Yes. Use the PNG download option to save your current visual preview for reference when comparing shades or discussing options with a tint installer.
